In 2023 we were fortunate enough to acquire two exoskeletons designed by the EksoBionics Team.
The device is called the Exso Indego, a lower-limb powered exoskeleton backed by significant research.
Adding the Exso Indego to our facility has opened the doors to even more options for our clients to work towards their recovery. How?
The Indego can be adjusted to fit each of our clients, ensuring an appropriate fit to enhance gait training. Our Activity-Based Trainers are then able to provide task-specific, individualized overground gait training. The feature that is most exciting to us is the fact that clients are REQUIRED to initiate a leg movement (i.e. think about and try to take a step), and the Indego will provide support where needed. This is GREAT because this feature ensures that the client has to remain engaged the entire session, the client must work to take that step! And remember, repetition is key to recovery!
Listen to what our clients have to say....
“Yesterday is kind of hard to put into words for me… It was my first time trying the exoskeleton and for the first time in 16 years, I actually felt like I was walking again! Until yesterday it had been over 16 yeas since I was able to take a walk outside… it had been over 16 years since I walked through a puddle or kicked up sand. It’s the little things for me.” - Amanda [C6-7 Quadriplegic]
“After 9 years, I finally felt like my old self while walking in the exoskeleton. I can’t tell you how much these moments mean to me!” - David [C4-5 Quadriplegic & UF Alumni]
“There’s no better feeling in the whole wide world than the moment when you climb into that exoskeleton and stand up! I never realized how much I missed standing up amongst my peers, seeing them eye-to-eye, face-to-face, having a conversation and being on my feet.” -Laura [T6 Paraplegic]
“I have not stood up this straight nor walk this smooth since 12 years ago. I can’t explain to you in words how amazing it felt!” -Chico [C4-5 Quadriplegic & LSU Alumni]
