NextStep Fitness, Inc, a Southern California based not-for-profit, whose mission is to build and manage fitness centers for the physically disabled, seeks qualified candidates to join our staff at our Lawndale, CA facility.
We currently have part-time positions available for Locomotor Training Specialists and Fitness Technicians. The facility hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8am-9pm, and Saturday 8am-1pm.
Current Openings
Locomotor Training / Rehabilitation Specialist
This is a part-time position that will:
- Provide skilled technical assistance to fitness/rehabilitation staff in the provision of direct client services in support of providing Locomotor Training support to individuals with physical disabilities
- Implement specified services that are included in the client's approved Activity Based Fitness Plan. Perform two-on-one and/or one-on-one (Specialist to client ratio) physical fitness activities with clients in accordance with Activity Based Fitness theories
- Work with Management to document client case files, with examples of neurological composition changes, in support of periodic evaluations of the client's overall fitness status and goals
- Perform tasks supportive of general center operations
- Work equivalent of five, 4.5 hour shifts weekly, some flexibility
Requirements for Consideration:
REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- Desire to advance the quality of life for individuals with physical disabilities - supporting a range of presentations (ex. spinal cord injuries, MS, stroke patients, cerebral palsy, other neurological disorders, etc.)
- Energetic, positive individuals with a team attitude for success
- Knowledge of exercise physiology, and/or another health occupation curriculum
- Physically fit (able to perform activities requiring heavy/prolonged physical efforts)
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- Individuals with or currently pursuing any medical or exercise-related degree (RN, OT, PT, PTA, Exercise Science, Kinesiology) or certification (CPT, ET, LPN)
- Candidates with experience working with individuals with disabilities in a clinical setting
Fitness Technician
This is a part-time position that will:
- Provide skilled technical assistance to fitness/rehabilitation staff in the provision of direct client services
- Assist clients with supportive activities related to fitness needs - to include: provide equipment overviews to all clients, help with transfers from wheelchairs to fitness mats or equipment, provide weight equipment support, perform basic stretches with clients, etc.
- Perform tasks supportive of general center operations - equipment care, supply needs, administrative tasks of the center (client sign-in, phone work, mail & marketing activities), etc.
- Work equivalent of five, 4.5 hour shifts weekly
